WATCH WILL TRENT ON ABC!
“If you’re into mystery thrillers, then you’re into Karin Slaughter.” —THESKIMM
He watches. He waits. He takes. Who will be next . . .
THE SILENT WIFE
Investigating the killing of a prisoner during a riot inside a state penitentiary, GBI investigator Will Trent is confronted with disturbing information. One of the inmates claims that he is innocent of a brutal attack for which he has always been the prime suspect. The man insists that he was framed by a corrupt law enforcement team led by Jeffrey Tolliver and that the real culprit is still out there—a serial killer who has systematically been preying on women across the state for years. If Will reopens the investigation and implicates the dead police officer with a hero’s reputation of wrongdoing, the opportunistic convict is willing to provide the information GBI needs about the riot murder.
Only days ago, another young woman was viciously murdered in a state park in northern Georgia. Is it a fluke, or could there be a serial killer on the loose?
As Will Trent digs into both crimes it becomes clear that he must solve the cold case in order to find the answer. Yet nearly a decade has passed—time for memories to fade, witnesses to vanish, evidence to disappear, and lies to become truth. But Will can’t crack either mystery without the help of the one person he doesn’t want involved: his girlfriend and Jeffrey Tolliver’s widow, medical examiner Sara Linton.
When the past and present begin to collide, Will realizes that everything he values is at stake . . .
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Whenever Karin Slaughter releases a new Will Trent thriller, it’s a time to celebrate. In The Silent Wife, a prison inmate convicted for an infamous string of brutally violent crimes tells the veteran Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent and his partner, Faith Mitchell, that he can prove the former chief of police framed him for the crimes. If that’s not enough of a doozy, Slaughter’s clinical depictions of the vicious attacks had us gritting our teeth, and so did the web of untruths and deceptions that Will and Faith have to untangle. New to the series? It’s okay to start here: This thriller reveals some of the backstory, especially in the intense flashback chapters that give us penetrating insights into different characters. Whether you’re in the mood for a Lee Child–style bruising action hero or a Gillian Flynn–like domestic thriller, The Silent Wife is a wonderfully escapist read.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
In bestseller Slaughter's macabre 10th thriller featuring Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent Will Trent (after 2019's The Last Widow), Will and his partner, Faith Mitchell, are investigating a prison murder when inmate Daryl Nesbitt extends an offer. Nesbitt will tell them who the killer is if the GBI will look into eight incidents one recent that he believes are connected to the rape of Beckey Caterino eight years earlier. Nesbitt is serving time for child pornography discovered on his computer during the cops' investigation of the Caterino case, but Nesbitt maintains that Chief Jeffrey Tolliver the now-deceased husband of Will's girlfriend, medical examiner Sara Linton framed him, and that a sadistic serial attacker remains at large. Will's scrutiny of Jeffrey's detective work sends Sara on a wistful trip down memory lane, leaving Will uncertain of their future. Will and Jeffrey's inquiries, unfolding through frequent flashbacks, add nuance and complexity to an already intricate plot. Slaughter delivers an unflinching, deeply empathetic exploration of the stigma surrounding rape and the enduring trauma suffered by its survivors.

Now I Can Breathe
The fantastic writing ability of Karin Slaughter keeps me reading even when I am gritting my teeth because the content is so brutal. Yes, I have to take breaks when I just can’t bear any more horror or violent trauma. Then, I just can’t wait to get back at the plot! The word spellbinding describes how she ropes me in every time. No one else writes this well, not even Daniel Silva whose works I love. Thank you for the hours of entertainment!
