While the love story was satisfying in terms of romance, what makes this story so interesting is the way they reveal the ideals and dreams of upper middle class America in the early 1900s. I doubt if life was as wonderful as it is portrayed, but the family warmth and virtues that are illustrated in this work, as well as by this author in general, make this book a charming glimpse into the romantic dreams that bloomed just before the Industrial Age took over.
