If you have never read a Gaunt’s Ghosts novel, go back and get the beginning. You are in for a treat, as they were always good and Abnett’s writing has only gotten better over the years.
If you know the series, you know that Abnett really loves the writer’s advice of thinking of the worst thing he can do to a character and then doing it.This novel actually has a lower number of dead main characters than they usually do, but more major plot twists. The pages burn by too fast, and my only complaint is the number of cliffhangers at the end. I’m crying to think that a sequel is a year and a half away at best.
