The Young Forester reads like exciting, fantastic conservation propaganda for teen boys. Anyone who has read a few of the classics novels will recognize that this is, by no means, great literature. Nonetheless, anyone who spends any time day-dreaming about spending time in the wilderness will relate to the protagonist, and the frequent exultation of natural beauty is easy to read. The wildness of the West is made fairly tame, but it is an adventure that any boy would hope to have.
