Matt Blunder looked at the ribbed guillotine in his hands and felt calm.
He walked over to the window and reflected on his deserted surroundings. He had always loved sunny Amsterdam with its alive, amused arches. It was a place that encouraged his tendency to feel calm.
Then he saw something in the distance, or rather someone. It was the figure of Annabelle Ball. Annabelle was a thoughtful deity with solid warts and solid hands.
