Publisher Description
Tomie Kawakami is a femme fatale with long black hair and a beauty mark just under her left eye. She can seduce nearly any man, and drive them to murder as well, even though the victim is often Tomie herself. While one lover seeks to keep her for himself, another grows terrified of the immortal succubus. But soon they realize that no matter how many times they kill her, the world will never be free of Tomie.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
J horror, a catch-all phrase for the distinctly Japanese flavor of scary narratives, is a genre rife with flesh-crawling eeriness, visceral body horror, and ambiguous motivations. American horror comics can seem simplistic and inarticulate in intent and execution by comparison, and they're entirely overshadowed by this masterpiece by one of J horror's greats. The title character is a sexually voracious succubus who appears as an appealing high school age girl. She is repeatedly and horribly murdered, only to soon return and wreak havoc on those who did her wrong. Impossible to describe without spoiling its many surprises, this volume is a cornucopia of stark terror with a creep factor that is barely contained by its meaty 700-plus pages. Ito's (Uzumaki) simple, clean linework roots its scares firmly in everyday reality and then plunges the reader into a writhing hellscape. For those not familiar with J horror, this is a splendid introduction.

Flawless & a wild ride
Everything from the artwork to the plot is amazing. Tomie is the best evil, gorgeous woman you’ll probably ever read/have seen in media. Not scary, but dark. A lot of dark humor from Tomie. You can’t help, but hope bad things happen to her. Junji Ito does great with the many short stories about Tomie. They don’t feel repetitive as long as you’re not trying to read the near 800 page book in a day. Each and every one of the stories are unique and captivating. It’s worth the buy just for the amazing artwork from Ito. The plot from each stories are a bonus.
Psychological Horror with an Amazing Plot
Tomie is a manga that genuinely made me feel uncomfortable at times. Junji Ito is amazing and creating imagery that is genuinely scary, yet he never compromises the plot. With Tomie, I got the scary factor, but overall, to its core, Tomie is a masterpiece of a story. The idea of a femme-fatale who lives to drive men mad with her death is not only original, it’s horrifying. A definite must buy!
