Someone has killed a member of the house of Tsalmoth who owed Vlad 800 imperials, and Vlad hopes to find a way to recoup his loss. In Vlad's hands, this mission becomes characteristically complicated: before the tale is over, the sorceresses of the Left Hand of the Jhereg become involved; Vlad (temporarily) becomes a demon; and the succession of the House of Tsalmoth comes into question. In between all the chaos, he and Cawti plan their wedding. Vlad's narration is cocky and quick-witted as ever, and it's a joy to revisit his usual costars, among them his strangely unnoticeable Jhereg employee, Kragar; his powerful Dragonlord friends Morrolan, Aliera, and Sethra Lavode; and his familiar, Loiosh. Series fans won't want to miss this.

Love it
Another hit from Brust here told a little differently than previous ones in the series. I loved it as I have all the others. BUT!!! There a timeline issue, Noish-pa supposedly didn’t meet Teldra until Phoenix. Otherwise perfect!
Fun
Classic Brust with lots of fun dialogue
Long time fan
I’ve loved the Vlad books since I was a teenager, now my son has been reading them with me for the past few years and it’s been great. If I’m being honest I was a bit hesitant to get excited about another trip to the past for Vlad (only because I’m so interested where his current story will go and ultimately end) but as usual I was not disappointed. Mr. Brust is a remarkable storyteller and I enjoyed every minute of this book. Pick it up I have no doubt you’ll enjoy it too!
