Publisher Description
England won control of Florida from Spain in 1763. The British granted large tracts of land to certain influential people. Andrew Turnbull was one of them. Turnbull recruited 1,400 people as his indentured servants from the Mediterranean area to colonize his land. The status of the Minorcans soon changed from indentured servants to slaves when Turnbull failed to keep his promises.
They endured many hardships under Turnbulls cruel overseers and slave drivers. Over half of them died during the ten years of their enslavement.
This is the story of a Minorcan teenage orphan, the girl he loves, and the many hardships and perils they faced from cruel slave drivers, dangerous animals, and hostile Indians.
