Brita Wasser-Filter-Systeme, GmbH and The Brita Products Company (collectively "Brita") appeal the grant of summary judgment by the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, in which the court held that Recovery Engineering, Inc. ("Recovery"), Signature Brands, Inc. ("Signature"), and Culligan International Company ("Culligan") did not infringe Britas U.S. Patent No. 4,969,996 ("the 996 patent"). We affirm.
