Publisher Description
The narrative drive of Stowe's classic novel is often overlooked in the heat of the controversies surrounding its anti-slavery sentiments. In fact, it is a compelling adventure story with richly drawn characters and has earned a place in both literary and American history. Stowe's religious beliefs show up in the novel's final, overarching theme—the exploration of the nature of Christianity and how Christian theology is fundamentally incompatible with slavery.
Customer Reviews
A sad tale with a sad modern side
Unfortunate that what the slaves prized so much besides freedom was the education of themselves—reading, etc that today is offered to all black children and often goes unused. Back then they understood it was their way out of poverty. Their ancestors would have given anything to go to school and learn. Today many black kids waste the education opportunity and often drop out. Sad they don’t see the value in education their ancestors sacrificed so much to obtain.
