Strong Emotions
Mr. Dalglish always finds ways to evoke intense, often complicated emotions through his storytelling and this is no different. Of course, it is fantasy, so some aspects of the story are out there; but his characters have a tendency to resemble people you actually know. From solid warriors just doing the best they can and who readily admit they don’t have it all together, to characters with the power to change the world, who want to make things better, but often make a mess of things in the process. Even to villains who might seek a noble goal but pursue it through horrible deeds.
He doesn’t make worlds of flowers and fuzzy love. Neither does he create worlds of perpetual, monotonous filth. He creates a more vibrant honesty.
