Publisher Description
A job, a true love, a baby, a cure. . .
We’re all waiting for something from God.
And the place between His answers can feel like a wasteland where dreams—and faith—go to die.
When we’re waiting, we wonder, “Why?”, “Why me?”, and “How long?”
But the truth? . . .
When God says, “Wait,” He doesn’t tell us for how long.
When God says, “Wait,” we face one of life’s greatest tests.
When God says, “Wait,” we have decisions to make.
When God says, “Wait,” we can control only two things: how we wait, and who we become along the way.
Author Elizabeth Laing Thompson invites you to walk alongside people of the Bible who had to wait on God. . .imperfect heroes like David, Miriam, Naomi, Sarah, Joseph, and others. Their stories will provide a roadmap for your own story, helping you navigate the painful, lonely territory of waiting, coming out on the other side with your faith, relationships, and sense of humor intact. They might even help you learn to enjoy the ride.
This book is about the journey of waiting, the space between answers, and the people we become while we live there.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Thompson takes a smattering of biblical characters (David, Joseph, Miriam, Naomi, Sarah, among others), gives them fuller storylines than the Bible depicts, and details how waiting played crucial roles in each of their lives. While the book never professes to be an exactly accurate recreation and Thompson fabricates much of what might have taken place, she does base her embellishments squarely upon Scripture. Each of the author's 12 profiles is complete with contemporary life parallels in which waiting can engender impatience, anger, bitterness, depression, pity, and discouragement. Thompson guides readers through these potential pitfalls and offers Christians pointed introspective questions at the close of each chapter to provide strength in the midst of life's waiting rooms. Christ followers will appreciate her full-bodied "fill-in-the-blanks" stories but may be put off by sporadic, inconsistent attempts to insert humor into the narrative. In the end, Thompson achieves her purpose of highlighting the positive aspects of learning to wait in the midst of emotional suffering, physical pain, or crushing disappointment.

Waiting
Good reading on how to wait; letting go and letting God do it in His time.
A Five-Star Gem!
Written with wit, humor, and a sense of candidness that makes the reader feel that the author has "been there", When God Says Wait is just the right voice to hear when you're going through a period of No's and Wait's. What a selfless gift to offer this beautiful book for free on iTunes!!
It was just the friend I needed to somewhat commiserate with, provide the fortifying prayers at a time when my mind is drawing a blank, and to remind me to hang in there when I feel dangerously tempted to sigh "woe is me" again.
It is inspirational, approachable and well written. A very worthwhile read. Thank you!
Awesome 🙌🏼🙌🏼
This book has shown me how to wait for God. I have changed how I pray, how I interact with God, and how expectant I am in His responses. I am still in my waiting period. But, this book helped me be once a better waiter.
