No matter what she plans on, Lila can't figure out how to handle the contradicting balance of what it's like to be Tommy's guest. Constant headaches of jealousy from a possessive coworker isn't helping. More threats from an unknown threat isn't ideal. And trying to get to the bottom of the fire that nearly ended her life seems more confusing with each passing day.

Hopeful with the hints that Lila might stay in Rockford for good, Tommy gets more ambitious for her to have closure. About her ex, about that fire, and about whoever's been warning her. Yet, it's not so easy to address his past and demand closure with the drama and conflicts that have only worsened since his best friend's death years ago.

Halfway stuck in the past and halfway desperate to move forward, Tommy learns to accept the help of his friends—whatever it takes to heal and open his heart to Lila. Until they can mutually agree that letting love win is the way to defeat the demons of their pasts, he has to wonder if it really is possible to open his heart once more and not be destroyed once more.
