Solid, kaleidoscopic fictional account of the failed British appeasement of Adolf Hitler is at its best recounting the lives of everyday people, the hangers-on who blew with the wind, and the backstage machinations of Neville Chamberlain’s inner circle. Marred by the stereotypical portrayal of US Ambassador Joseph Kennedy as drunken fascistic lout and at times methodical, uninspired prose. Nonetheless, a fine read for fans of intrigue and WW2 history.
