A Goodreads Big Thriller of Fall
A twisting, unpredictable new novel of suspense by #1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Jackson, perfect for fans of the page-turning novels of Harlan Coben, Melinda Leigh, and Gregg Olsen.
“The constant twists will keep the readers hooked. This is a nonstop thrill ride.”
—Publishers Weekly
The Cahills of San Francisco are famous for two things: their vast wealth, and the scandals that surround them. Murder, greed, deadly ambition . . . some people will do anything to get, and keep, the Cahills’ kind of money. Not that James Cahill wants any of it. He’s tried to make his own way, less interested in a future inheritance than in his construction company—and in enjoying the many women taken in by the easy charms of a handsome, soon-to-be-rich bad boy.
“Jackson juices things up with plenty of sexy suspense and a generous amount of
high-octane thrills.”
—Booklist
Perhaps there’ve been too many women. Waking up in a small hospital in Washington State, bandaged and bruised, James barely recognizes the gorgeous blonde who comes to visit. Through the haze of pain and medication, he recalls that she is Sophia, the woman he’s been cheating with. Gradually memories return—his girlfriend, Megan, had found out about Sophia. Now Megan is missing, her sister is hounding him—and police and reporters are asking questions. James insists he has no idea what happened. Yet he can’t escape a feeling of dread . . .
“A good mystery that keeps readers guessing until the very end.”
—The Parkersburg News & Sentinel
Meanwhile, in a locked room, a woman waits, trapped, petrified, desperate. She thought she knew who to trust. But the betrayal you can’t imagine—or can’t remember—may be the most terrifying weapon of all . . .
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Wealthy bad boy James Cahill isn’t sure if the trouble he’s in is real. He wakes up in the hospital with an apparent case of amnesia. The blonde at his side says she’s his mistress (is she?) and police say he assaulted his girlfriend, Megan (did he?). This installment in Lisa Jackson’s San Francisco–based mystery series is stacked with one twist after another. Like a master magician, Jackson fools us again and again, introducing characters who seem sinister only to turn good, ones who appear noble only to prove heinous, or best of all, some who seem to be both at the same time. We loved how we never knew whom to root for from one page to the next. A psychological thriller as breathlessly dramatic as its title, You Betrayed Me is a wickedly entertaining read.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
A complex web of romantic entanglements forms the core of Jackson's exhilarating third Cahills romantic suspense novel (after Almost Dead). Megan Travers has a vicious fight with her boyfriend, serial dater James Cahill, after which Megan goes missing and James wakes in a hospital room badly bruised and beaten, with no recollection of how he got there or the woman, Sophia Russo, who shows up insisting that she's his girlfriend. James is also the main person of interest in Megan's disappearance, but his memory loss holds up the investigation. Not buying the amnesia angle, Megan's sister, Rebecca, another of James's ex-lovers, arrives in Riggs Crossing, Wash., determined to find out what really happened. The memory of James's passion for Rebecca turns out to be the only thing that can break through James's foggy mind. The romance takes a back seat to the suspense as Jackson pulls the entire cast of kooky, nefarious townsfolk into the mystery of Megan's disappearance, and the constant twists will keep the readers hooked. This is a nonstop thrill ride.

Parts were unbelievable
Good book, good plot, however accusing the person of being involved in a disappearance and possibly murder of another person when he had a concussion, was found unconscious, with blood all over the fireplace mantel, seemed odd. In no world, would the person with a head wound, found unconscious be accused of a crime. Pretty sure he didn’t throw his own head to the mantel and split it open.
Had some issues with this book.
I’ve read several books by this author and liked them, but this one irritated me on several levels. First of all, the cops had the wrong person as the suspect from the get go. Please tell me how a man who was knocked unconscious was supposed to have had something to do with his ex-girlfriend’s disappearance after she attacked him and was seen fleeing the area? The police said he wasn’t “really injured” when he sustained a traumatic head injury, loss of consciousness, amnesia, broken ribs, and and injured shoulder. What exactly is their idea of a serious injury? Lastly, the author made all the female characters appear either stupid or desperate to be with one wealthy, rich man, with a history of loving and leaving them. Pathetic.
So disappointed in this book.
Not a single likable or interesting character in this entire book. Depressing waste of my time and money.
