Witnessing the awesome spectacle of Mother Nature’s fury during a storm event evokes a myriad of emotions. I think the underlying feeling above all (as a storm chaser) is how lucky it is to not just see but to capture the variety of moments unique to a storm’s evolution, from beginning to end. For most folk, it’s about seeking cover as the sky darkens, not wanting to get wet, let alone escape possible danger from lightning and high winds. The possibility of viewing the elements which compose a storm, and how clouds progress into seemingly unlimited shapes, colors, and tones isn’t considered. Instead, take shelter, and wait for ‘things’ to pass.



But if you find it within yourself to literally ‘weather the storm’, you can be left with euphoric, ethereal, ephemeral memories which leave an indelible mark upon oneself. I think it invokes an interesting perspective about existence, and for each of us our place within this world. Maybe that’s a bit over the top; yet you won’t know unless you experience first hand what transpires when a storm takes over the skies above you. Allowing yourself to be exposed to the unknown can be healthy and inspire enlightenment.



This was an interesting storm season. There were a number of surreal atmospheric meteorological disturbances, complimented by squalls which ended before they truly got started. Was a pleasure making the time to see where each of these storms were willing to take participants, such as myself.
