Friends to lovers
I loved this book from the start. These two characters meet in unusual circumstances, but develop a true friendship. Their conversations range from humorous, all the way to heartfelt.
I couldn’t help but feel saddened for Thomas. He tries hard to please others and be true, but his wife and mother-in-law are simply awful. He needed to be loved the way he loved his daughter. Beatrix is perfect for him.
Beatrix has worked so hard to be the perfect debutant in order to impress her natural father and have him notice her. What society sees is not all she is. She has a big heart, only wants the best for those she loves, can break into any lock and has light fingers.
Thomas and Beatrix story is a friends to lovers trope. They each have secrets to reveal and problems to overcome, but they have each other’s friendship to help.
I found that I was waiting for their next meeting and so this meant that I was reading ‘just a bit more’, so I found it difficult to put down.
