Felicity Sutton knows poverty firsthand, and she’s never going back. She might miss the smithy, but not the relentless desperation of no home and an empty belly. Dare to be yourself
If you like your Regency romance to stick to strict social norms then you may have trouble with the Duke’s sister and the carriage smithy. If, however, you can embrace the possibility then this story will fill you with the pleasure of an interesting story and a great romance. This is the fifth book in the series and it doesn’t disappoint. Once again there is a strong female character and a man who doesn’t want her to change, he wants her to be herself.
Felicity is afraid of poverty and not being able to keep her promise to herself about helping poor children. She knows what it is like to have nothing. She thinks that the only way she can achieve her aims is to hide her true nature and marry a wealthy peer.
Things begin to change when she meets and works with Giles. The smithy is where she feels most like herself, working as a lady mechanic. Getting the most out of her brother’s racing curricle brings these two together. There are some great descriptions of the races and the tension created by a cheating driver.
Action packed and with a satisfying ending, this book can stand alone, but reading the other books in the series just adds that extra level of connection to the characters.
