Every heart holds a secret, but some are harder to reveal than others…
England, 1812. Aster Simmons lives a quiet and orderly existence working as a secretary and indulging in her love for puzzles—until her routine is disrupted by the arrival of an impertinent Scotsman who lounges around her office like an overgrown dog. The heated glances he casts her way make her think very non-routine thoughts.
Hamish Logan, captain in the Highland Wolves, has been given a mission to protect the man working on a coded list of traitors. If the Wolves are ever to have the same rights as ordinary men, he has to prove to those in power that a wolf can be civilised. The only problem is the fascinating secretary, who makes his wolf rise to the surface and makes him want to do very uncivilised things.
When the traitors strike, Aster flees with a wolf in pursuit. But can she determine who is behind the plot against England before she forfeits her heart and her life?

Secrets To Reveal
Great read thoroughly enjoyed the links to historical events, unusual story line and the romance.
A Great Read
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Interesting characters and a plot with twists and turns that made me unable to put the book down.
Good little read, but...
It’s an interesting take on supernatural historical romance/mystery/suspense genre and I wish there were more books like this… however there were a couple issues that weren’t resolved or explained.
1. The fact that Aster plays “the sister” and yet it is repeatedly said Simmons had no family. For being spies this is a MAJOR hing to miss.
2. People’s inability to remember Aster, it seemed more supernatural than just her being average and forgettable. I mean Lady Merton remembered her and even saw her as a rival, yet other’s just seemed to forget she was even in the room (e.g. when she was with Quinn when he was playing Albert at the button factory, or when the guys that kidnap Sir John forget the maid, aka Aster, who took the book and disappeared when “she went to get Simmons”.)
3. The dog gets very much forgotten and left out after they return from the cottage. He’s mentioned but plays a very small part, it’s a complete turn around from the beginning of the story where he is a constant.
4. Several actions are mentioned, like Alick following Aster, But there’s never any follow through. In fact it happens a couple more times. Characters say something and then it is done off screen and or completely forgotten.
5. The timeline is non existent and the flow of time is hard to gage. By the end it says a few weeks have gone by but I could only count about 2.
Overall it’s a fun little story with a few issues but its different from the myriad of other stories that seem to forget their own plot in favour of the shallow romance the characters are playing at.
The romance here is fun and feels like a natural progression even if the timeline is a little funky.
