He leads the league in scoring. My heart won't give him another shot.
I swore I'd never come back to Denver.
I'd never trust the wrong man again.
But here I am, back in the same place as the bad boy athlete who broke my heart.
Clay rules the basketball court, and now he's gunning for redemption. But I'm not the same girl who fell for the man behind the all-star image and reputation.
He made me want him like I've never wanted anyone.
He made me feel like I was the only thing that mattered.
A single look can make me ache.
A whispered promise in his gruff voice makes my chest tight.
Clay'll do anything to prove we're worth another shot.
Shot Taker is a full-length grumpy sunshine sports romance and book 2 in the completed King of the Court series. Clay and Nova's story begins in Game Changer and concludes in Play Maker.

Love conquers all bring a new perspective to Nova and Clay
A great second book in this trilogy. I loved the connection between Clay and Nova. These characters experience hurdles in their relationship but forgive each other. Nova and Clay bring out the best in each other. Clay builds on Nova’s confidence with her art and helping her to appreciate her self worth and to negotiate with the owner of the Kodiaks on royalties and merchandising profits from her mural. Nova shows Clay there is more to life than Basketball - love, family and good friends.
a bit boring
Found part 2 a bit boring, no where near as good as book 1. You could probably just read book 1 and 3 and know what's happening
An Addictive Sports Romance That Leaves You Craving More
Shot Taker, the second book in the King of the Court Trilogy by Piper Lawson, is an absolute gem that will leave you on edge: prepare yourself for a roller coaster of emotions as you dive deeper into the lives of Clay and Nova, but be warned, this book ends with a tantalizing cliff hanger that will leave you craving for more.
In true Piper style, she always draws you into a world brimming with delicious characters and an addictive storyline that you never want to leave and I adore her for it! Piper’s ability to create characters that steal your heart knows no bounds and none more so than in this second instalment as we witness the relentless pursuit of redemption by Clay Wade, the grumpy athlete who once broke Nova's heart. Nova, determined not to risk her heart again, finds herself back in Denver due to a life-changing opportunity, setting the stage for their paths to intertwine once more. The dynamic between Clay and Nova is electric, their chemistry leaping off the pages and making you believe in the power of second chances…ooft the steamy scenes are off the charts!
One of the highlights of Shot Taker is the interconnection between Piper’s worlds. Fans of her Enemies Trilogy will delight as I did, in the mention of beloved characters as they appearance in this book. The mere presence of these characters, including the exciting moment when Little Queen’s DJing is mentioned at Harrison King's club, adds an extra layer of excitement and nostalgia; I love Piper’s ability to seamlessly weave her characters' stories together, creating a universe that feels rich and interconnected.
The emotional depth in Shot Taker is profound. Every dirty look and kind word from Clay resonates with intensity, making your heart ache alongside Nova's. The undeniable passion and chemistry between them ignite the pages, keeping you thoroughly engrossed. As their relationship evolves and Clay's persistence begins to chip away at Nova's defenses, you find yourself torn between longing for their reunion and fearing another heartbreak.
Piper expertly sets the stage for the thrilling conclusion that awaits in Play Maker, leaving me counting down the days!
Overall, Shot Taker is an addictive sports romance that hits all the right notes. Piper's impeccable writing draws you in, making it impossible to put the book down. The delectable characters, the interconnection of beloved worlds, and the emotional roller coaster of Clay and Nova's story create an experience that lingers long after the final page. Be warned, the cliffy will leave you yearning for more. If you're a fan of intense chemistry, second chances, and unforgettable characters, this book is an absolute must-read. Five stars are simply not enough to capture the brilliance of Shot Taker and this series!
