'Smart, topical and immensely entertaining' T.M. Logan
From the author of R&J pick, People Like Her, and for fans of The White Lotus and Big Little Lies, Ellery Lloyd's The Club is an exhilarating, addictive read, telling a story of ambition, excess, and what happens when people who have everything - or nothing - to lose are pushed to their limit.
There's no place like Home . . .
The Home Group is a collection of ultra-exclusive private members' clubs and a global phenomenon, and the opening of its most ambitious project yet - Island Home, a forgotten island transformed into the height of luxury - is billed as the celebrity event of the decade.
But as the first guests arrive, the weekend soon proves deadly - because it turns out that even the most beautiful people can keep the ugliest secrets and, in a world where reputation is everything, they'll do anything to keep it.
If your name's on the list, you're not getting out . . .
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
This masterly thriller from the pseudonymous Lloyd (People like Her) effectively delays revealing who among the large cast of characters has died violently. Ned Groom has created exclusive clubs around the world for the elite of the elite, who pay huge sums to have their every whim catered to. Groom has just launched his most spectacular branch yet, on a private island 90 minutes from London, accessible by car only by a causeway at low tide. Its amenities include Poseidon, a fishbowl-like restaurant with views of the surrounding sea. The prologue, in which two unidentified people in a Land Rover halfway across the causeway realize they aren't going to make it as the tide rapidly rises, is followed by a Vanity Fair article, "Murder on the Island," which describes Poseidon patrons noticing a submerged Land Rover and its grim contents outside the window. That development and the discovery of a body on the island turn "the party of the year" into "the murder mystery of the decade." Flashbacks provide an array of suspects and motives. Lloyd (husband-and-wife writing team Collette Lyons and Paul Vlitos) makes the reader care about even unappealing characters, and the payoff is completely satisfying. Fans of Ruth Ware's One by One will be riveted.

A solid read
“Everyone is dying to join…”
Set on an isolated private Island just off the English coast, an exclusive club know as Island Home is the most in demand getaway where the rich and famous come out to play away from the prying eyes of the public. What happens at Island Home stays at Island Home, however no one could have anticipated how deadly things were about to become…
The Club had so much potential, but for me it did take a bit of work to get through it. After a strong opening it loses it’s momentum fairly quickly and I felt focuses too much on the backstory for some characters that took away from the main storyline.
The mix of characters, both likeable and ones you love to hate kept things interesting, although I found there to be too many to keep track of and I was unable to really connect with them.
I enjoyed the writing style but unnecessary details did slow it down. That being said, when it found it’s mojo again around the half way mark it was full steam ahead.
I enjoyed it’s dark sinister atmosphere and plot twists which made me glad that I did persevere with it.
My first book by Ellery Lloyd didn’t give me the WOW factor I was hoping for, but there were enough positives that I would like to read more from this husband and wife duo.
Easy quick read
Entertaining and kept me hooked
Incredible
I loved this book from start to finish. I very much struggled to put it down most nights. Full of surprises and brilliantly written.
