Publisher Description

Promising Young Woman meets High Fidelity in the dark and twisty new thriller from the bestselling author of The Sunday Girl, The Strangers We Know and The Paris Affair.

A bad day at work. A drunken night. A rogue Instagram follow. That’s all it takes to ruin a life …

The question is, whose life will be ruined? When Billie wakes up in a strange guy’s bed, her first thought is: what happened last night? She can't even remember meeting him. And how the hell did she get to Coney Island?

Then reality bites and the memories flood in – the reason she was in that bar, drinking to start with: today she's going to get fired. Because yesterday her law firm lost a big case: Samuel Grange v Jane Delaney. And it looked like it was her fault.

It wasn't. Yet now Samuel Grange is free to drive off into the sunset in his stupid Porsche and do it all again to another woman. And all Billie can think is: What about the next girl? And the one after that? But there is nothing she can do to stop him.

Unless ... She could expose the truth about him on her own. Then everyone would see what he was really like. And he wouldn't be able to do it again.

The problem is, the only way to protect the next girl is to become the next girl. And, well, that could be a little risky ... even deadly.

Worth the wait

I binge read Pip Drysdale’s previous books in a weekend and have been eagerly waiting for this new release to drop. Equally brilliant - I raced through it then wanted to re-read it again to unravel all the twists and turns throughout.

Who’s next

Ms Drysdale’s fourth book has girl in the title again like the first one, and a burb that reads, “Promising Young Woman meets High Fidelity.” (No comment). Protagonist Billie wakes up in a male stranger’s bed after a big night out she can’t remember, loses her job, goes looking for answers (as well as a missing shoe) while avoiding arrest, yada, yada. Our gal works it out eventually despite beaucoup plot twists, which some might call overly contrived. The end.
Good pace. Snappy dialogue with a hint of irony underlying it. Improbable plot, even more improbably resourceful twenty-something protagonist, but all good fun in the end. Did I mention derivative as hell?

Loved it!

”The only way to protect his next victim… is to be his next victim…”

When paralegal Billie Spencer is fired from her job, blamed by the law firm for them losing a big defamation case involving surgeon Doctor Samuel Grange, Billie takes it upon herself to expose Grange for the predator that he is, even at the risk of her own life.

The Next Girl is a compelling read that I could not get enough of. So gripping and intense everything about it drew me in and held me captive. For the life of me I couldn’t put it down, especially as the end of each chapter left me wanting more!

I really loved Billie’s character. Flawed and complex, she was believable and I loved how the story unfolded with her speaking to the reader, which made it more personal. I also enjoyed her backstory that is interspersed throughout where we learn more about her.

Once again Drysdale has delivered another gripping and super tense tale. Perfectly written, executed and with plot twists galore, makes this a very entertaining and must read. Bring on the next!
