With this poignant, magic-infused contemporary romance, Poston (The Dead Romantics) explores love, grief, and the courage it takes to create one's "own adventure." As a publicist for a boutique Manhattan book publisher, Clementine lives for work, splitting her limited personal time between her parents and her coworkers, and grieving the recent death of her larger-than-life, Auntie Mame-esque aunt, Analea. Analea left Clementine her "century-old" Upper East Side apartment, which she often described as a place where "time pinched in on itself," but she also warned Clementine not to fall in love within its walls. Clementine learns that her aunt's kooky stories are true when she wakes up to find young chef hopeful, Iwan, also in residence—though he's living seven years in the past. What follows is an easily flowing and often unpredictable romance. The magical element adds a cool twist on the gradually building central relationship and Poston's depictions of grief ring especially true and are sure to tug at readers' heartstrings. This is an emotional delight.

Spellbinding
Fantasy is not my genre of choice but this story kept me reading to determine if my predictions were accurate. There were a few unexpected surprises, which added to the depth of the story and to the depth of the message it explores. Thought-provoking and well-worth a reread in the future when life has changed.
Magical, Hopeful & Beautiful
The Seven Year Slip is a read that captured my mind, spoke to my soul, made my heart beat faster, and tugged just a little more as a swarm of emotions enveloped me. This is my first book by Ashley Posen, and I am captivated by the simplistic yet impactful prose character development that spans seven years into the past and future. This book is about finding yourself through grief, learning to pick the little pieces as they drop, romance and becoming the best version of yourself. Clementine is one of my favourite characters of 2023. Her evolution as she sees the safety net of her job slowly begins to tear into unfulfillment; her devotion towards being a best friend and confidant and reading her heart soar with Iwan is magical. The timelines were distinguished and flowed exceptionally well. The lead and supporting characters were full of life and highly relatable. The little wisdom giveaways are something that lingers in the corner of my mind for a long time. However, I found the ending to be a little rushed, but it did not take away from the central message of this beautiful read.
If you're a fan of romance, time travel, what if and nostalgia, this is the perfect read for you.
