Sixteen-year-old Kelly Welch's summer was supposed to be perfect — long, lazy days with her friends and her horse in Texas. But her life changes in an instant, and her unexpected move to Fort Myers Beach, Florida leaves her lonely and frightened. Living with a workaholic aunt she barely knows, and facing a new school, she's anxious and unhappy. 

That changes when she meets Scott — smart and nerdy, and a kindred spirit — and they quickly become friends. His best friend, the handsome and athletic Austin, joins them on a surprise adventure back to the past, adding an unexpected romantic complication. 

At the heart of the adventure is a strange machine Scott discovers — Thomas Edison's legendary Telephone to the Dead. After some tinkering, they pick up the voice of a young girl named Wendy calling for help from beyond, and Scott finds a way for the three of them to travel through time to save her. 

The summer that began so badly becomes the most exciting and dangerous one of Kelly's life, as she faces the dilemma of risking everything to save someone she doesn't even know — especially now that she's felt the first promise of love. 

The book blends mystery, time travel, science, and teen romance into a fast-paced YA adventure, and went on to win the Best Indie Book Young Adult award for 2013.
