Summary

Not My Life is Book #5 in the Time Shifters YA series by Bob Kat.

On their way home from a trip to the Stanley Hotel in 1911, an accidental detour drops Kelly, Austin, Scott, and Zoey in 1977 — something that has never happened before. They quickly discover that their old friend Dan DeNucci has been arrested for murder. 

They had known Dan only as a gentle homeless man living under the fishing pier and making jewelry from seashells. But a newspaper article reveals he had once been a respected doctor with a wife and child — and that he claims he was asleep in his study when his family was brutally murdered. 

The teens must first convince Dan that they actually have the power to travel through time — but that raises its own question: can they really trust him? Once back in the present, they decide to return to the past to dig up the evidence needed to find the real killer and restore Dan's stolen life. 

The book also delivers on the romantic tension fans had been waiting for, with sparks finally flying between the core characters Apple Books, while weaving in the ethical debates about time travel that have become a hallmark of the series. It ends on a cliffhanger that sets up the next installment.
