"Christopher Paolini is a true rarity." —The Washington Post
When fifteen-year-old Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself.
Overnight his simple life is shattered, and, gifted with only an ancient sword, a loyal dragon, and sage advice from an old storyteller, Eragon is soon swept into a dangerous tapestry of magic, glory, and power. Now his choices could save—or destroy—the Empire.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Christopher Paolini became a sensation with this landmark fantasy of mythical beasts, treacherous villains, and a young man discovering the skills and courage he never knew he had. During a hunting expedition, teenager Eragon happens upon a strange egg that soon hatches a powerful, wise, and obedient dragon. Now, Eragon must decide if he’s ready to fulfill his destiny and become a Dragon Rider, one of the honorable lawmen tasked with keeping the peace before the vicious Galbatorix became the ruler of the land. Paolini’s thrilling coming-of-age adventure pits a ragtag resistance against the forces of a scarily ruthless empire. We were astounded to learn that Paolini was still a teenager when he wrote this first book in the Inheritance Cycle, although it helps explain the unmistakable realness of his young hero’s emotions. With its vivid world-building and evocative language, Eragon is a brilliant read for fantasy lovers of any age.
