Publisher Description

The 2020 Edition of the book will examine the six most common venues for fraud. Where you are most likely to find frauds today. We will examine frauds in detail with regard to these venues; credit cards, debit cards, telephones, email, the Internet and public areas. How technology exacerbates an already bad situation. What you should be on the lookout for. What to do to minimize any effect the fraud will have on you.

Fraud: Don’t Be A Victim and its companion book Fraud Awareness are about a 21st century crime, personal fraud, that will affect every one of us. It is becoming so prevalent in our society that no one is immune to it. It is no longer a question of if you will be a victim of one of these crimes but when you will be a victim. What will you do when it happens?

The defining number for personal fraud is 37.5%. Police forces around the globe recognize this number as the percentage of people who when defrauded once will be defrauded again. In North America people who are defrauded once will on average be defrauded another three times.

Being able to identify a fraud and understanding how frauds work is the best way to educate yourself. Learning what actions you need to take before this happens will minimize your exposure and mitigate your pain. Finally the book will provide a comprehensive list of what to do and who to contact when you become a victim.

Scary stuff!

We’re living in a world full of people ready to steal your time, money and identity. Thankfully, we have Mike on our side! I didn’t realize how lazy and inattentive I’d become regarding my credit card and debit card use - I had no idea about cash trapping and ATM tampering. Nor was I aware of “pump and dump” or Ponzi schemes (they’re everywhere!). The world is a terrifying place but knowledge is power! After reading Mike’s guide I feel much more confident. This is an excellent book and I recommend it to EVERYONE but especially those of us who are perhaps a little less electronically inclined! AWARENESS is your best defense!

You can’t be too careful

I gave this book to my mother. Seniors are particularly vulnerable to fraud. To my surprise she read it cover to cover and when we talked about it I realized how little I knoew about the subject myself. It is easy to become complacent about fraud, becasue there is so much of it today. If we develop a few good habits we will be better able to protect ourselves. Everyone should read this book.

Everyone should read this.

This is a great little book on the fastest growing criminal activity in the world. Everybody knows someone who has been touched by fraud. I found the section on telephone scams to be very interesting and it has caused me to use my phone to block calls that I know are suspicious. I have also become much better at spotting email scams. This is a great book to pass along to your friends and family.
