Publisher Description
In the 2022 edition the author has updated the book to take into account the effects of the COVID pandemic. Some of the attractions in the earlier version of the book have been removed because they did not survive the pandemic, while others have had to make changes to their hours of operation and admission fees. It’s funny how that happens. In any even the book still has much for visitors to see and do. Nevertheless, things are fluid and you will have to check the current conditions of the attractions in particular before setting out to them.
Hawaii Travel Tips is first and foremost a travel guide for the Hawaiian Islands. It includes the four larger islands; Oahu, Hawaii, Kauai and Maui as well as the four smaller islands; Molokai, Lanai, Niihau and Kahoolawe. Each of these islands are examined during a road trip, that covers the entire island, stopping at all the major cities, towns and villages and pointing out in detail, almost 450 points of interest and attractions along the way. Directions to all attractions include an address, mile marker and specific instructions on how to get there. There are over 400 color pictures of the key attractions plus any local tips to make each attraction more enjoyable.
If this were not enough, the book also explains the natural history of the islands, their formation and the geological features upon which they were formed. You will learn about the flora and the fauna and ten of the fourteen climate zones in the world that can be found in Hawaii,. There are more climate zones in Hawaii than any other single place on earth. The history of the islands is also sprinkled throughout the book and integrated with the appropriate attractions to make it more interesting for the reader. Finally, there is even a section on island hopping so you can easily take day trips between islands to get the most out of your visit.
If you have already selected an island you want to visit you might want to consider one of my companion books; Oahu Companion, Hawaii Companion, Kauai Companion or Maui Companion, These books are a subset of this larger book.

Paradise
Well I was definitely pulled in by the striking image on the cover. Nothing beats a Hawaiian sunset! This was a chatty, informative travel giude written by someone who KNOWS. Clearly Mike is an avid traveler and lets us in on all the dirt - where to go and what to see. Going to the Big Island? Check out the Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Visitor Center (yum!). Going to Kauai? You won’t want to miss the historic Gaylord Wilcox Mansion! If you’re going to Oahu you might want to see the Battleship Missouri Memorial (and if you’re planning to stay on Oahu for awhile, you’ll definitely want to pick up Mike’s “Oahu Companion”)! After reading this handy guide I was ready to take my own little trip to PARADISE!
Aloha
This is one of the most complete travel guides on Hawaii that I have read. It offers a history of the islands and an indepth look at the four major islands, Oahu, Maui, Kauai and the big island, Hawaii as well as the four smaller islands and a section on inter-island transportation. There are over 400 attractions identified in the book with complete instructions on how to get to each of them and what to look for. We love to travel and while we can not right now because of the pandemic this travel book is the next best thing.
Best Hawaii Travel Guide Ever
This is an excellent travel book. It is full of useful information and the detail instructions on getting to all the attractions makes it easy to find your way around. I particularly like the fact that it covers the main islands and the smaller islands.
