Publisher Description
After a decade apart, childhood sweethearts reconnect by chance in New York Times bestselling author Christina Lauren’s touching, romantic novel Love and Other Words…how many words will it take for them to figure out where it all went wrong?
The story of the heart can never be unwritten.
Macy Sorensen is settling into an ambitious if emotionally tepid routine: work hard as a new pediatrics resident, plan her wedding to an older, financially secure man, keep her head down and heart tucked away.
But when she runs into Elliot Petropoulos—the first and only love of her life—the careful bubble she’s constructed begins to dissolve. Once upon a time, Elliot was Macy’s entire world—growing from her gangly bookish friend into the man who coaxed her heart open again after the loss of her mother...only to break it on the very night he declared his love for her.
Told in alternating timelines between Then and Now, teenage Elliot and Macy grow from friends to much more—spending weekends and lazy summers together in a house outside of San Francisco devouring books, sharing favorite words, and talking through their growing pains and triumphs. As adults, they have become strangers to one another until their chance reunion. Although their memories are obscured by the agony of what happened that night so many years ago, Elliot will come to understand the truth behind Macy’s decade-long silence, and will have to overcome the past and himself to revive her faith in the possibility of an all-consuming love.

We quickly got lost in memories of first romance as we tore through this this well-paced love story. Toggling between Macy and Elliot's long-past teenage crush and their present-day adulthood, Love and Other Words traces the enduring but complicated story of two kindred spirits. In a voice that’s both relatable and contemporary, two-person author team Christina Lauren—previously known for their young adult novels—craft engaging and honest prose that packs just the right amount of steamy drama.

The best
the best book I’ve ever read, a literal page turner, the plot was well written out and the ending was the best I could’ve asked for. There was also an unexpected cry I had. 😭😭
Wonderful
This is an honestly wonderful read. It’s a romance,it’s a coming of age, it’s about reconnection and second chances but more than anything I would say it’s about grief. The true type of grief that settles in your bones so young it becomes a part of them. A grief that fuels your fears and wants and needs. A book about grief that is so deeply felt and understood by the reader that the word “grief” is never even needed to be used. It was beautiful.
The characters in this book are lovingly crafted with talent. They clearly grow and change throughout this story. It switches between past and present from Macy’s POV. Even the main supporting characters are dynamic and realistic.
The romance between Elliot and Macy is soul mate level. An almost obsession for each other- but it’s healthy too. They deeply understand each other and communicate so clearly. The spice is about a 4/10.
Overall I feel like the author poured their love into this story and that came cleanly through to the reader in the quality of the story and connection. It made me laugh, it made me cry- but overall the happy ending made me feel full. 5/5
