The Extractor (Jack Storm #1)
I met Jack Storm at the end of a previous book, Foreign Interception, and I am so excited for this new series! This book does not disappoint, which has been my experience with this author. A fast-paced, well-written thriller with twists and turns that will keep you hanging on to the last page!
Wow! What a series opener.
Jack is the most unpredictable character in the CIS and you never know whether this loose cannon will make a situation better or worse. He has anger control issues which have gotten worse since his family disappeared. The idea of a spy who extracts other agents from harrowing situations—which requires focus and self-control—having this type of issue makes him a fascinating and rather unusual character.
As for the op, it was certainly a bumpy ride! Jack doesn’t want a partner and is surprised and a bit disconcerted to find out how much Riley is like his younger self. He has a very unusual way of putting the younger agent in his place! I thought they’d be a disaster as teammates but I found myself liking Riley and his pairing with Jack more and more as the story progressed. The pair encounter a variety of tense situations, are forced to work with people they can’t trust and find themselves betrayed. The action is fast paced with plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing. The mystery surrounding the disappearance of Jack’s family adds something extra. A terrific start to the series.
I’m hooked now and I badly want to know more
We first met Jack near the end of Foreign Interception, and I was immediately intrigued. Not unlike the author’s other heroes, Justin and Javin, Jack has a daredevil streak that makes him more than a bit of a loose cannon at times. Though, he’s also a more introspective man as he comes to terms with his personal tragedies and how they affect everything he thinks, feels, and does. I’m hooked now and I badly want to know more, especially to see him finally get the answers he’s so desperately searching for.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
