Not just a game
I really liked this idea of recruiting characters from earth to an off world alien setting through a video game. Jaime and Alex click as a team in the gaming world yet things are a bit different/more intense in person. It was interesting thinking about how one would think and act in a game situation - voicing desires, taking risks and caring out deadly tasks as compared to doing all of those things for real. Watching Jamie process this new reality was quite enjoyable. I also really liked the added suspense of dealing with the the dark queen and trying to figure out how to stop her influence.

Excellent start to a new series
This book is an excellent start to a new series by Ms. Goodwin and I loved it. The premise was interesting - playing a video game fighting a war in space was true and your time in the game was actually your training - and the characters and their relationship was compelling. The action was fast paced and I was quickly immersed in this new world. I really enjoyed this story and can not wait to read the next book.

Wowsers!
This book packs a punch! There’s action-packed exciting books, but this one is a cut above. I loved the premise, a video game acting as a training simulation, and I was impressed with how the pairing-off worked. The banter between Alex and Jamie is fun and quippy and their romance is red hot - whew! I’m hooked - I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
