A little bit of mystery can make a love story even more exciting, and this instalment in Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series takes that to the next level. The impressively intellectual Phillip has been wounded by the death of his wife. But during his grieving, he develops feelings for the ever-upbeat Eloise Bridgerton as they write letters back and forth. For her part, Eloise needs to figure out if it’s really love, or if she’s just enchanted by the charming mystery man’s correspondence. The letter-writing creates a captivating tension between Phillip’s beguiling words and his morose real-life self. The story is made all the more engaging by Quinn’s relatable characters. They may have seemingly charmed lives, but, just like us, Phillip and Eloise have flaws and make questionable decisions—and they know it. No matter if you’re a longtime Bridgerton fan or new to this extravagant world, the giddy, passionate energy of To Sir Phillip, With Love will put you in the mood for romance.

After reading this superb post-Regency-era romance, the fifth in Quinn's Bridgerton siblings series, it's easy to see why the author's previous book, Romancing Mr. Bridgerton, landed on RWA's Top 10 Favorite Books of 2002 list. Quinn is a consummate storyteller. Her prose is spry and assured, and she excels at creating indelible characters like chatty Eloise Bridgerton and Sir Phillip Crane, the protagonists of this unconventional effort. The novel opens as Eloise, a 28-year-old "spinster," flees London to visit her secret pen pal, Phillip, a troubled botanist and widower. The two plan to see if they are compatible, but Eloise's hopes plummet when she discovers that Phillip is not the romantic charmer of her dreams, but a grumpy father of twins. She agrees to remain for a fortnight, however, and as she interacts with him and his unruly children, she learns that he has a good heart, even if he is an emotionally distant father. Weighty issues such as abuse and discipline threaten to overshadow their relationship at times, but Eloise's sunny disposition brightens the novel, as does the arrival of her four brothers. Quinn's characters possess endearing quirks and flaws, and their easy banter is loaded with wit and warmth. Indeed, readers will likely find themselves rereading certain passages if not the entire book in order to prolong their connection to this charismatic clan.

People don’t give this book enough credit
The reviews made me scared to continue after the sample but I liked this book more than the first 2 books (yes better than Anthony’s book). Not all the love stories are the same because that would be boring. At first I was scared for Eloise in this book because I was afraid to be let down but that only made me want to read more so it was great! The ending was so sweet and Philip definitely made up for every time he said something dumb lol
The best love story!
So far the best of the Bridgertons series, in my opinion
Not impressed
The only reason I liked this book is because I feel compelled to know about all eight Bridgertons. The first and second books were so good could not put them down. Never wanted them to end. The third was just magical. Then came Col & Pen. I was disappointed. Was not expecting much from ‘To Sir Phillip, with Love’. Got just want I expected, not much.
I hope next one will be better.
