Death of a Fairytale Princess

Is it me, or is everyone in the entire kingdom telling the story of The Goose Girl completely wrong? Princesses don’t die in fairytales, do they?
Or, as everyone claims, am I simply looking for a happier ending simply because I’m a goose girl too?
