Go Set a Watchman is set during the mid-1950s and features many of the characters from To Kill a Mockingbird some twenty years later. Scout (Jean Louise Finch) has returned to Maycomb from New York to visit her father Atticus. She is forced to grapple with issues both personal and political as she tries to understand both her father’s attitude toward society, and her own feelings about the place where she was born and spent her childhood. An instant classic.
Go get a watchman
I enjoyed very much, it's a story of really growing into your own person!
Oops own goal !
I re-read to kill a mockingbird before listening to this. There's a lot of people saying that this isn't a separate novel but just an early draft sent to the publisher by Lee. I think they're right. It's incongruous in many places, some phases appear in TKAM and the characters are wildly different in behaviours. I could see an editor sending this back and saying "keep this bit, I like the FPPOV, but surely the back story is better than this?"
As much as I rate Reece Witherspoon, she can't keep the flow in the lumpy prose at times.
Wish I hadn't read it.
What a waste of time and money. Writer and publisher should be ashamed.
