PREPARE TO BE HOOKED: Nailbiting suspense from the addictive number one million-copy bestselling author.
Read by Nicola Walker (Unforgotten, The Split, Last Tango in Halifax) and Louise Brealey (Sherlock, Lockwood & Co.), alongside a full cast, this breath-taking audiobook includes original music and a gripping soundscape, which immerses you in the production and leaves your spine tingling.
Celebrating her 45th birthday at her local pub, popular podcaster Alix Summers crosses paths with an unassuming woman called Josie Fair. Josie, it turns out, is also celebrating her 45th birthday. They are, in fact, birthday twins.
A few days later, Alix and Josie bump into each other again, this time outside Alix's children's school. Josie has been listening to Alix's podcasts and thinks she might be an interesting subject for her series. She is, she tells Alix, on the cusp of great changes in her life.
Josie's life appears to be strange and complicated, and although Alix finds her unsettling, she can't quite resist the temptation to keep making the podcast, which you will hear, fully produced, throughout this audiobook.
Slowly Alix starts to realise that Josie has been hiding some very dark secrets, and before she knows it Josie has inveigled her way into Alix's life - and into her home.
But, as quickly as she arrived, Josie disappears. Only then does Alix discover that Josie has left a terrible and terrifying legacy in her wake, and that Alix has become the subject of her own true crime podcast, her life and her family's lives under mortal threat.
Who is Josie Fair? And what has she done?
This audiobook includes additional performances from: Jenny Walser, Kristin Atherton, Tom Judd, Ayesha Antoine, Elliot Fitzpatrick, Alix Dunmore, Dominic Thorburn, and Lisa Jewell herself.

APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Lisa Jewell hasn’t shifted 10 million books over her 25-year career by accident. Here we find the best-selling London novelist at the peak of her powers, in another psychological thriller that’s impossible not to rip through in a matter of hours. Alix and Josie were born on the same day, in the same hospital, 45 years ago…but that’s where the similarities end. After a chance meeting, the birthday twins and odd couple end up working together—Alix, a glamorous podcaster, is so intrigued by downtrodden Josie’s strange aura that she agrees to record a series about her. Big mistake. Huge. The characters are deftly drawn, the plotting is impeccable, and the impending sense of doom will chill your bones. In a good way.
Customer Reviews
*Dark & Twisted*
This starts off seemingly innocent but then grows very dark indeed.
Two very different women are celebrating their 45th birthday in their local pub.
Alix Summer - is a successful podcaster and has a husband who is generous to a fault, a great father but he occasionally goes on benders and becomes unreliable and although he is a loving husband she is growing weary of worrying about when she will see him. The saving grace is their two beautiful children. They never want for money which enables her to do what she loves
Having finished her last series of podcasts she is looking for something different
Josie Fair - she lives in a council flat with her much older husband, she works in a shop doing alterations to clothes. Her children are grown up but the picture here is far from conventional. Josie is after a change
When they are celebrating in the pub Josie is with her husband, they do not usually socialise so when Josie sees Alix go to the bathroom she follows and quickly says they are Birthday twins!!!
Days later having bumped into each the podcast begins, dressed up as birthday twins, Josie says she has a story but her story is like no other. Soon it turns into something else when Josie’s revelations peak Alix’s interest. Most of the revelations are jaw dropping but as Alix starts to grow uneasy not really knowing what is the truth… disaster strikes
The whole thing gave me the creeps and I feel that some of what unfolds could have been avoided if professional help was introduced as someone needs to be held accountable….. the ending for me was not satisfying, possibly room for a sequel or maybe that is what the author Lisa Jewell intended.
Hooked from the start
Please tell me there will be a sequel! There are so many questions to be answered!
Compulsive Listening
Brilliant creepy plot that I’ve come to expect from LJ these days. Read brilliantly by Nicola Walker.
