Sometimes the life you want is closer than you think.
Piper Manning's about as tough as they come, she's had to be. She raised her siblings and thankfully they've flown the nest. All she has to do now is finish fixing up the lake house her grandparents left her, sell it, and then she's free.
When a huge storm hits, she runs into a tall, dark and brooding stranger, Camden Reid. The spark between them shocks her. Surprising her further, is the return of her sister and brother, each keeping their own secrets. It would be smart for Piper to ignore them all but Cam unleashes emotions deep inside her that she can't deny. And her siblings...well, they need each other.
Only when the secrets come out, it changes everything Piper thinks she knows about her family, herself...and Cam. With the chance of the new life she craves within her grasp, can she find a way to let go and embrace it?

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Shalvis (The Lemon Sisters) unites two people healing from emotional trauma in this tender contemporary. EMT Piper Manning is reluctantly celebrating her 30th birthday at a bar in her hometown of Wildstone, Calif., when she meets her neighbor's 32-year-old son, Cam Hayes, a DEA agent. The attraction between them ignites during a particularly stormy night, but Piper is reluctant to let anyone get too close to her. After her parents died, she raised her younger siblings, Winnie and Gavin; they've recently moved out and she's ready to live life on her own terms. Cam is also reeling from his younger brother's recent death and not sure how to connect with civilians. Then Piper's siblings come back home, seeking comfort from their sister but reluctant to admit the ways their lives have fallen apart. Piper's relationship with Cam heats up, but she's afraid that coming to rely on him will further hamper her quest for independence. Believable, realistic characters are at the heart of this novel. Shalvis will immediately grab the reader's attention with a strong heroine and caring connection between two wounded souls.

Good book
Enjoyed it
Shalvis writes siblings like no other
No one does siblings like Jill Shalvis and she has succeeded again. Piper is the the classic older sister who takes the responsibility of her sibilngs very seriously. She’s put her life on hold and she is almost ready to move on with her own plans now her siblings are old enough to look after themselves. However life never works out the way we think it will.
That’s certainly the case for Cam. He’s lived by his own rules for so long, trying to establish a relationship with his estranged father takes more patience than he was expecting, while trying to fill the gap his younger brother occupied.
Both have lost people they couldn’t protect and are trying their best to control the situations they find themselves in.
Shalvis has a way of writing about bickering but loving families that you can’t help but want to be a part of. Its through their faults that each character is so endearing and I could not put this read down that as soon as I finished it, I read it again.
