Publisher Description

'A veritable treat' Daily Mail

The fifth novel in Julia Quinn's globally beloved and bestselling Bridgerton Family series, set in Regency times and now a series created by Shondaland for Netflix. This is Eloise's story . . .
My dear Miss Bridgerton,

We have been corresponding now for quite some time, and although we have never formally met, I feel as if I know you. I am writing to invite you to visit me here at Romney Hall. It is my hope that after a suitable period of time, we might decide that we will suit, and you will consent to be my wife.

Did he think she was mad? Eloise Bridgerton couldn't marry a man she had never met! But before she knew it, she was in a hired carriage in the middle of the night, on her way to meet the man she hoped might be her perfect match.

Except . . . he wasn't. Her perfect husband wouldn't be so moody and ill-mannered, and while Phillip was certainly handsome, he was rough and rugged, and totally unlike the London gentlemen vying for her hand. But when he smiled . . . and when he kissed her . . . the rest of the world simply fell away. Could this imperfect man be perfect for her?

Lovely story

Lovely Bridgerton story as always and yet it kept Eloise at heart

I wanted to like this book as I’ve enjoyed the others, but Philip is a really unlikeable character. He is grumpy and rude and misogynistic - he ‘tolerates’ her talking a lot and doesn’t connect with her on any mental / emotional level, just wanting to kiss her whenever she tries to talk to him, rather than listening to what she has to say. He uses her as a mother for his kids and a lover in the bedroom but he never gets to a point where he appreciates or respects her as a person - I kept expecting it to happen to make Eloise’s story a romantic story but it doesn’t. She seems to have to smother the chatty, intellectual side of her that wants an equal partnership, in order to love and be loved by him. It all leaves a bit of an uncomfortable taste. I hope the next books are better.

Lovely read

I wasn’t a fan of Eloises’ character, but to be honest, that is the book that I enjoyed reading most.
