'A macabre tour-de-force' NEW YORK TIMES
Dexter Morgan isn't exactly the kind of man you'd bring home to your mum. At heart, he's the perfect gentleman: he has a shy girlfriend, and seems to lead a quiet, normal life bordering on the mundane. Despite the fact that he can't stand the sight of blood, he works as a blood-spatter analyst for the Miami police.
But Dexter also has a secret hobby: he is an accomplished serial killer. So far, he's killed 36 people and has never been caught because he knows exactly how to hide the evidence. And while that may lead some people to assume he's not such a nice guy, he tempers his insatiable hunger for brutality by only killing the bad guys.
However, Dexter's well-organised life is suddenly disrupted when a second, much more visible serial killer appears in Miami. Intrigued that the other killer favours a style similar to his own, Dexter soon realises that the mysterious new arrival is not simply invading his turf but offering him a direct invitation to 'come out and play'...

Excellent
Perhaps eight years on after I was introduced to the television series, Dexter (that tailed off sadly into an almost unwatchable nonsense from something beautifully promising and dark), I picked up a copy of the original book by author, Jeff Lindsay. I found this incredibly easy to read and hard to put down.
Dexter is such a likeable fictional character. A likeable serial killer, Juggling with everyday troubles of trying to fit in and live a somewhat normal life by day, with his need to take life and being a serial killer by night. His acts may be disgusting and horrifying to nearly all, but he has this need and a strict code given to him by his father at a young age, keeps Dexter from being caught and hurting innocent people.
Whilst knowing the story somewhat, I still stumbled upon a few shock moments, perhaps from my fading memories of the show, or just from great writing, and I liked the way Dexter’s thought processes were shown throughout.
I highly recommend this book regardless if you are a fan of the tv series wanting more, or if you're just into psychological crime/thriller novels.
I felt the book could've been longer but then I'm assuming the other books in the series bring more to the table. Looking forward to book #2
Fantastic Book
I really struggled to put this book down.
Great book!
Purchased the audiobook, very nice, would be even better if it was narrated by Michael C. Hall
