Publisher Description
Sharon Penman's Here Be Dragons is an absorbing historical novel of power and betrayal, loyalty and political intrigue in thirteenth-century England, Wales and France.
Thirteenth-century Wales is a divided country, ever at the mercy of England's ruthless, power-hungry King John. Llewelyn, Prince of North Wales, secures an uneasy truce by marrying the English king's beloved illegitimate daughter, Joanna, who slowly grows to love her charismatic and courageous husband.
But as John's attentions turn again and again to subduing Wales – and Llewelyn – Joanna must decide where her love and loyalties truly lie.
Beginning the medieval trilogy that includes Falls the Shadow and The Reckoning, Here Be Dragons brings thirteenth-century England, France, and Wales to tangled, tempestuous life.

Here be Dragons
The first of the Welsh Trilogy of the Princes of Wales.
A stunning piece of writing. Sharon Penman is a master at creating the mood and feel of the time, providing a rich tapestry in which to tell this true love story of Llewelyn ap Iorwerth (Llewelyn Fawr) , the first Prince of Wales and his Princess Joanna, an illegitimate daughter of King John of England.
She recounts accurate details of the historical events of the time brilliantly, and in a completely engrossing way, revealing the torn loyalties with which they both struggled throughout this fascinating period of Welsh history.
I highly recommend this and the sequels. It is one of my favourite books- I just couldn't put it down.
