'The best Star Wars publication to date . . . [James] Luceno takes Darth Plagueis down the dark path and never looks back.' Newsday
Darth Plagueis: one of the most brilliant Sith Lords who ever lived. Possessing power is all he desires; losing it is the only thing he fears. As an apprentice, he embraces the ruthless ways of the Sith. When the time is right, he destroys his Master-and vows never to suffer the same fate. For like no other disciple of the dark side, Darth Plagueis learns to command the ultimate power . . . over life and death.
Darth Sidious: Plagueis's chosen apprentice. Under the guidance of his Master, he secretly studies the ways of the Sith while publicly rising to power in the galactic government, first as Senator, then as Chancellor, and eventually as Emperor.
Darth Plagueis and Darth Sidious, Master and acolyte, target the galaxy for domination-and the Jedi Order for annihilation. But can they defy the merciless Sith tradition? Or will the desire of one to rule supreme, and the dream of the other to live forever, sow the seeds of their destruction?
'Luceno draws on his storytelling skill and prodigious knowledge of the [Star Wars] world . . . to craft a complex tale of ambition and desire.' Library Journal

Breath of fresh air
Fantastic lead-up to Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, well written, and fully enjoyable.
An outstanding book that sits as one of the very best Star Wars novels
This book is nothing short of outstanding. Set many years before the reign of the empire and emperor palpatine, this book is about darth plagueis and his apprentice darth sidious and palpatines early years leading to the end of episode 1. the relationship with his master darth plagueis is an incredible dynamic, where they’re much more of partners than master and apprentice but one being the clearly more dominant in the relationship all the while scheming and planning the end of the Jedi order. seeing how they work together to achieve this is some of the best Star Wars content out there. I would recommend reading some other legends books first as there are references to other books in this that will make a lot more sense with prior knowledge. This book really is one of the very best Star Wars books out there and would make for a great series (thank me later Disney) don’t be put off by the legends tag, current “canon” books still aren’t anywhere near the level of some legends books.
It’s just really unenjoyable to read
Unhinged, descriptive content, over complicated detail of characters and scenery. I am a Star Wars and Sci-Fi fan and have read many fan books that are better written than this. I don’t really know what else to add, I’m just really disappointed.
