The Defenders

When the world's surface is consummately annihilated, the combatant nations develop an artillery of cyborgs called "leadys" which are able to defy the havoc surrounding them. Humans are compelled to inhabit artificial underground cities to escape the deathly radiation above. The radioactivity-immune machines proxy the attacks and the conflict continues.

Some of Dick's other famous short stories were adapted for film, including "Blade Runner," based on his 1968 novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" and "Total Recall," from his short story "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale," starring Arnold Schwarzenegger in the original and Colin Farrell in the 2012 remake.
