We love a pacy thriller that’s not afraid to throw its characters into some extreme predicaments—so this was incredibly fun reading from the first page to the last. It follows six students at an exclusive English school who are responsible for the death of a mother and her two young daughters when an end-of-term dare goes horrifically wrong. One of the group agrees to takes sole blame on condition that she can demand a favour from each of her friends once she’s released from prison. Two decades later, scarred by incarceration and public vilification, she’s ready to collect that debt in increasingly—and imaginatively—torturous ways. Your heart in your mouth, you’ll find yourself racing through this twisting, tightly plotted skewering of privilege and entitlement in one sitting.
