Publisher Description
It costs a lot to pay a man to stand between you and the Wild. To risk his life, and the lives of his friends, for nothing more than money. The Red Knight has sworn a vow to protect the innocent. But if he gets paid as well, that's fine...
Destined for a life of betrayal and intriuge, the Red Knight has decided to follow another path. Hired by a nunnery to protect them from an unknown terror, he and his band of mercenaries think this will be an easy job. Good food, pretty company, strong walls and good pay - what more could they want? But the threat from the Wild is more dangerous, and more wide-ranging, than they can imagine...
The first standalone novel in a five-part series of epic fantasy inspired by Arthurian legend, THE RED KNIGHT demonstrates all of Miles (Christian) Cameron's skills - fantastic characters, detailed battles inspired by his own experience as a re-enactor of medieval warfare, and political machinations which will pull the rug out from under the reader. This 10th anniversary edition features additional material and revised text.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Fans of hefty adventure epics will enjoy this dense, intricately plotted historical fantasy debut, which launches the Traitor Son Cycle. A medieval Europe threatened by the chaos and magic of Wild creatures turns to two dubious civilizing forces: the church and bands of cutthroat knights for hire. Normally the Wild are powerful, semi-intelligent animals and magical beings without direction or discipline, but a rogue sorcerer named Thorn is summoning the Wild to fight the forces of church and law and sees taking the fortress nunnery Lissen Carak as the first step in overrunning the kingdom. The abbess of Lissen Carak reluctantly hires the Red Knight and his group of mercenaries to defend the abbey, but she isn't sure which is worse: the Wild forces, or the mercenaries' threats to her nuns' virtue. Cameron, a pseudonymous author of historical fiction, packs this thick volume with enough magic, violence, and intrigue for three books, flavoring the story with period detail and earthy dialogue.

Great book
Starts a bit slow but this is a great book, absolutely everything that I was looking for in a fantasy epic.
A really excellent story.... But the punctuation and missing words....oh dear
I really enjoyed this read, I was gripped from the word go. I think the plot was excellent and it was very well put together and tied up neatly at the end.
All I would say is for the love of God get a decent copy text editor, as many of the words made no sense sometimes and although I get the gist it sometimes makes me have to re-read a sentence for the bit I am reading to stack up. The editing is terrible.
Having said all that I will be reading the next one as the content is really top notch. A very enjoyable read!!
One of a kind!
At first I was hesitant to read this series, so many out there claim to be “the next game of thrones!” Or “The next lord of the rings!”.
This series takes the best qualities from those two series, mashes them together with amazing writing, concepts and characters to give you the adventure of a lifetime. Trust me, you want to read this!
