After a tragic accident which left her deeply scarred, Sage Singer retreated into herself, allowing her guilt to govern her life. When she befriends kindly retired teacher Josef, it seems that life has finally offered her a chance of healing.
But the gentle man Sage thinks she knows is in fact hiding a terrible secret. Josef was an SS officer during the Holocaust and now he wishes to die - and he wants Sage to help him.
As Josef begins to reveal his past to her, Sage is horrified.
Does this past give her the right to kill him? A compelling tale about the line between justice and mercy from the internationally bestselling author Jodi Picoult.

APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Bestselling novelist Jodi Picoult does it again: The Storyteller is harrowing, heartbreaking and utterly unputdownable. In a sleepy New England town, Sage Singer, a reclusive 20-something baker, befriends 90-year-old Josef (and his dachshund Eva). We loved Picoult’s sensitive depiction of this unlikely friendship and were horrified when Josef revealed his heinous past. The masterful story-weaver plunges us into the gut-wrenching reality of a Nazi concentration camp—through the eyes of Sage’s grandmother, Minka—before leaving us with one of the most agonising moral conundrums we’ve ever encountered in fiction.
Customer Reviews
Deeply moving
So much to like about this novel, slightly formulaic after reading too many Picoult works. The truth is clear early on, and at times the up to date story is eclipsed by the depth of the past story. Faults aside it was a great read
READ IT!
I could not put this down..... OK, I'm biased; I love the way Jodi Picoult writes, but seriously, it's an amazing story. I can only imagine the amount of research that went into it to make it so believable.
Wow!
A book that will stay with me for a very long time. Beautifully written. I could picture the settings in heartbreaking detail, and felt as if I knew the characters well.
I normally always opt for crime thrillers, and gave this a go on a whim. I did not expect to be so captivated. I will definitely be exploring other genres after this and other titles from Jodi Picault.
