Theoretical Bridge-Building: The Career Development Project for the 21st Century Meets the New Era of Human Resource Development‪.‬

INTRODUCTION Human resource development (HRD) and career development (CD) share common ground, and yet they rarely engage in two-way interdisciplinary dialogue and research. An exception to this is the research that results from the explicit inclusion of CD as a subsection of HRD, hence the reference to one-way dialogue. The level of interdisciplinary dialogue from the CD field towards the HRD field is less frequent and less significant than the discussion emerging from the HRD field towards the CD field. The inclusion of CD within HRD has generated interdisciplinary research activity and dialogue within the HRD field. Nonetheless, some have seen this dialogue and research activity as 'window dressing' (Egan, Upton & Lynham, 2006). Recently there has been a failure to engage in CD related discussions within HRD (McDonald & Hite, 2005).
