APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Echoes of notorious real-life crimes resonate through this psychological mystery but Gold weaves them into an addictive story entirely of his own. The page-flipping plot follows the likeable but flawed Ben Harper, an acclaimed investigative journalist who lives in the shadow of childhood trauma. When his older brother was lured into the woods and brutally killed by two classmates, the shocking crime hit headlines and made their sleepy Thames-side commuter town a notorious hotspot. Twenty years later, there’s another murder with macabre parallels to his brother’s and Ben must finally confront the past. Can he crack the cold case and get closure? As bodies begin to pile up, it becomes clear someone wants their secrets to stay hidden. It’s a skilful portrait of guilt, loyalty, denial and the darkness lurking beneath the idyllic surface of close-knit communities. There’s a head-spinning sequence of rug-pulls and revelations in the home stretch, with a twist you’re unlikely to see coming. Reminiscent of Iain Banks’ The Crow Road, Alex Marwood’s The Wicked Girls and even a Home Counties remix of Mare Of Easttown.

Good read
Good read
Awesome!!
So good i had to read it in one!
Wow
I unknowingly read the second in this series before the first. I enjoyed that so much I couldn’t get in to any other books so sought out to read the first After reading this I can say “wow”. I usually guess the ending or can see where it is heading from a mile off but with this I had no idea. Amazing. Can’t wait to read the third.
