If only all narrators were this good
A Pair of Blue Eyes is an early Hardy novel of romance and fantasy, a brutal depiction of the infantilization of the daughter in a middle-class Victorian family that made me wince.
The reading is superb, a real tour de force. Even if this is not Hardy’s finest novel technically, the recording is worth acquiring for the narration as a performance.
Marvelous.
Surely this is one of Hardy's most accessible novels, and the twists and turns of the plot are worthy of Dickens. The narrator is just superb, and I enjoyed his reading so much that I am now going to search for every other book he has ever recorded. This audiobook was a treat from start to finish, and the low price was just the icing on the cake. What a treat !!
