3.5 stars, rounding up to 4 because I do feel like it’s a solid series that’s a fun and quick read, too. Once more, I am happy with the book series. While there was definitely a stretch at the start that I had a bit of a time getting drawn into, once I hit a certain point though - I couldn’t really put the book down.
There was a point at the end that I thought that a main character may actually be killed and that made me be on the edge of my seat for a little while. I did feel that the ending was a bit rushed, similar to another one in the series. I also felt that when Kezi and Javier joined Gwen at the end of the book- that they were sort of doing stuff that they wouldn’t normally do - especially not if the FBI had been involved.
I also thought it was interesting because I felt like the author was drawing inspiration with the Twelve Tribes cult (who travels around in RVs to music festivals and they lure people into the cult to give up their possessions and go work on a compound, some people are still missing and being moved around their compounds.) I also thought it was interesting that I read about a domestic terrorist in Australia, and how he was a member of a cult called the Saints, similar to the plot line. I can’t help but wonder if the author drew inspirations from these two groups. I also know that the author has passed away from cancer, and I just feel like she would also draw inspiration from the newest season of Waco. Since this book also drew inspiration and some of its plot line from Waco / Ruby Ridge.
None the less, I look forward to finishing the next two books in the series.
