Publisher Description

Perched between branches and shadows, We watch, we scheme, Fighting for a kingdom forgotten and forlorn. Until we rip her away with our claws, Our prisoner, our pawn, our plaything. She’s innocent and pure, Fragile and helpless… …but oh so guilty by blood. She calls us beasts, Wicked and evil, Vicious and cruel. We are all that and worse. One of us offers her shelter beneath his wings, Whispering promises of pleasure, Seeking redemption. The other longs to shatter her into a million pieces, Whispering promises of pain, Seeking revenge. Caught between our feathers, She endures our deranged desires, Our secrets, our lies, Our twisted plans. Will she surrender to our darkness, or fight for a destiny growing ever elusive? Welcome to the Court of Ravens, little white dove. Feathers So Vicious is a full-length dark fantasy romance novel and the first book in the Court of Ravens duet. The two-part story features two morally gray raven shifters, a young woman at the mercy of their shadows, and a HEA. This world contains dark elements, violence, and themes some may find disturbing. What this book doesn't contain is a hero—because villains do it better. And two do it better than one… More detailed information and trigger warnings can be found on the author's website: LivZander.com.

Overhyped and Underwhelming

I rarely DNF, but when it came to this duet, I almost gave in; therefore, I gave this 3 stars. It's a mercy rating because I like Liv Zander, and I've enjoyed her other works, but this duet is largely overhyped in my opinion.

First off, I hated this audio narration. The female narrator (Shaina Summerville) did the best job—props to her. She brought a much needed emotional depth to the female lead, Galantia. The male narrators, however, were a different story. Their voices just didn't fit the roles of Malyr and Sebian very well, and when it came to them voicing other characters, they were just downright bad. It really pulled me out of the story and made it hard to stay immersed.

The amount of SA in this duet is over the top. I love dark romance and I love spice, but this was way too much. I know I'm not the only one who felt this way—many readers point out that despite trigger warnings, the SA scenes feel gratuitous rather than essential to the plot. It's dark, yes, but there's a line between dark and gratuitous, and this book crosses it repeatedly. As a fan of her other work, I was prepared for the darkness, but the combination of gratuitous SA and the "why choose" dynamic just didn't land for me here.

The story overall was just… weird; and kind of boring. The premise—two morally black raven shifters and a young woman caught in their deadly game—had potential, but the execution fell flat for me. The plot meandered and failed to build the tension I was expecting, making it hard to stay invested in what was happening to Galantia. The female lead is so broken and traumatized from childhood that she often comes across as a ‘mopping mess of stupid’, as another reviewer put it, which made it hard to connect with her at times.

The second book, Shadows so Cruel, is slightly better on the story front, but not enough to save this duet for me. Overall, not Liv's best. If you're new to her work, I'd start with something else (Crown Me Dead is a GREAT read). If you're a die-hard fan and feel the need to read this, go in with lowered expectations.

Thrilling & Exciting … beautiful novel

This book does NOT have any loose end. The progression of the story is thrilling & exciting with a little touch of humor. It’s not like any other books that has a lot of filler and you can skip some pages and still the story has not made much progress. With Feathers So Vicious you will hang on to every page because you will not want to miss a thing. Liv Zander never disappoints her readers.
