Part Three: #HighSchool

It was pretty much three hours of endless darkness, so she angled her notebook and took a nap.
She woke up about five minutes before the gong sounded. When she was dismissed for lunch, she took a little bit of strange blue soup, selected a table in the back, and sat down. She poked it, not exactly sure if she wanted to know what was in there.
“Is it OK if I sit here?”
Astrid looked up. A round-faced boy with curly brown hair and blue eyes looked down at her.
“Of course,” she said with a smile. “Pick any seat.”
“I’m Jensi,” he said as he sat down. “Hang on a minute, I think I remember you. Weren’t you the one who made the ability restrictor and the Councilors put it on Tam?”
Astrid nodded solemnly. Jensi sighed. “Thanks for letting me sit here,” he said.
“No problem,” Astrid replied. “Thanks for making sure that my table isn’t lonely.”
“You’re welcome,” he replied.
“Hey, by the way,” Astrid added, “If you want to sit here every day, you can.”
“Aww, they’re sitting together like they’re dating!” a familiar (but not friendly) voice said.
Jensi rolled his eyes. “Get with the times, Stina. If anyone’s dating, it’s you—with a gulon.”
Keefe laughed. He slid next to Jensi, with Sophie taking the seat next to him.
Tam took the seat on Astrid’s left, but Linh took the open seat next to Sophie.
“Soooooo…” Keefe started off. “Anything new?”
“Not really.” Marella tossed her hair. She slid down the bench next to Linh, setting her tray next Linh’s. “At the very least, I got nothing. What about you guys?”
“It was Elvin history,” said Biana matter-of-factly. “So, boring.” She slid next to Astrid on her other side.
Dex took the seat next to Biana, saying, “I’m beat.”
“Why’s that?” Sophie asked.
“Elementalism. Broke three bottles trying to catch a hurricane.”
“Makes sense,” said Maruca, sliding next to Tam. “But at least my Gardening Session went well.”
“So. No updates?” Sophie said.
“Nope.” Stina shook her head. “Also—why is SHE here? She’s not supposed to be here—she literally incapacitated Tam!” She pointed at Astrid for emphasis.
Astrid’s cheeks flushed, and she wouldn’t meet anyone’s eyes.
“Back off, Stina,” said Tam. “If I’m not holding her accountable, then it’s all good. I don’t see what your problem is.”
“My problem is—,” Stina began, but instantly stopped when Fitz showed up.
“Why do you guys look like I just interrupted something important?” Fitz sat down next to Stina, and her cheeks flushed.
“It’s nothing,” said Tam quickly. “You good Astrid?”
Astrid could only nod. Was Tam the reason her heart was beating so fast?
“So…um…are we done with the drama? ‘Cuz the whole school seems to be staring at us.” Jensi pointed to the other tables, which were indeed gawking at them with open mouths.
“Maybe they should,” said Biana jokingly. “I’m letting them see me right now.” Biana was a Vanisher and was notorious for ditching her bodyguard Woltzer by using that ability.
“I dunno,” said Dex. “That’s probably not the reason why, though.”
“Maybe it’s cause the Council’s Little Pet gave us a bunch of unnecessary attention,” said Stina flatly.
“‘Council’s Little Pet?’ Do you hear yourself?!” Tam stood up, staring down Stina.
“I do,” she said calmly. “But if you want to be difficult, then go ahead and side with her. Maybe it’ll end just like with Little Miss Neverseen.”
Tam sucked in a breath like he’d been punched.
Rayni Aria was a former member of the Neverseen, and everyone had come to trust her. But then one day, she disappeared with no trace left behind except for a vague note she’d hastily scrawled on Tiergan’s special stationary, saying: “You’ll be better off without me. Isn’t it what you’ve always wanted?”
The only thing they knew of her at this point was that she was gone—and that she’d never let them see her again.
Tam hadn’t taken it too well.
Then he realized: he’d accidentally told Astrid with his shadow-conscious, stretching it over toward hers.
He added, ‘I’m sorry,’ To the message.
Astrid blinked back tears as memories swam before her eyes. Taking her tray, she disposed of her trash in the garbage bin and placed her tray on top of it.
Then she walked as far as she could away from the cafeteria.
Away from Stina.
Away from the humiliation.
Away from Tam.

CHAPTER FIVE: A NEW WORLD
It was a few days later when she saw the mysterious boy again. She was heading back home from school when it all happened. Suddenly a voice spoke in her head! Donaria recognized the crisp accent as the voice of the person who had spoken to her a few days earlier. He told her that she was actually a elf and was a result of a experiment made by some Neverseen folks. He then told her that his name was Fitz and he was here to take her to the elven world. Donaria was a servant in her house so it was an easy choice. “I’ll pack my bags.” She whispered.

CHAPTER SIX: SOPHIE AND KEEFE
“Wow” was all Donaria could muster at the moment. She was standing outside a very large building, almost a castle made out of pure crystal. A girl was standing outside on a bench with a handsome boy. The strange thing was that six odd looking creatures were standing protectively behind them. Fitz walked over and beckoned Donaria to do the same. “This is Sophie and Keefe.” He said. “Hi!” Donaria exclaimed happy to know the boy’s name. “Is this the girl who has the one ability?” Sophie asked completely ignoring her. “Hi.” Whispered Keefe as if he was afraid to speak. Then he waved his hand in front of his face. “Intense emotions?” Asked Sophie. He nodded. “ Ummm Why are you all acting like I am a bush or something?” Donaria grumbled. They all stared at her with faces like they thought she couldn’t talk. Was someone going to explain why they were standing outside instead of going in? “Let’s go inside.” Sophie declared.
